This weekend we went to see my parents and one of my sisters for an early Christmas celebration. The 4 boys were thrilled when they opened their gifts from my sister. She also gave them the book with the story called The Hockey Sweater... http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/The-Hockey-Sweater-Carrier-Cohen-Fischman/9780887761744-item.html It's a fun story...
Okay, ...I can already all other teams fans making their expected comments. Here's hoping their relatives will remember how sensitive children can be and don't get grown- ups humour. ☺
The boys were so happy to have hockey jerseys and with their Opa being a Canadiens fan...they felt pretty proud wearing their red jerseys and have their photo taken! Also with it being the 100th anniversary of the founding of the team and them one of the oldest teams, even before the NHL started... You'll have to admit it's pretty cool to get a red Montreal Canadiens jersey this Christmas!
*Here's a little trivia I found about the H on the jersey...
One of sports' oldest and most recognizable logos, the classic 'C' and 'H' of the Montreal Canadiens was first used together in the 1917-18 season, when the club changed its name to Club de Hockey Canadien from Club Athletique Canadien,[19] before evolving to its current form in 1952-53. The 'H' does not stand for 'Habs' or Habitants; this is a misconception. It actually stands for 'Hockey', as in 'Club de Hockey Canadien', the official name of the team. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as "the Habs" was American Tex Rickard, owner of the Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the "H" on the Canadiens' sweaters was for "Habitants."[20]
In that bottom picture Thomas looks SO MUCH like Mark!!! WOW!!!
