Back in May my husband and I went away for our anniversary. The week leading up to our 3 days away was very busy for me. For those with no children or those whose children are grown, going away for a weekend is mainly a matter of getting your plans together, packing your bags and going! Well, we're going away to QC for 2 days and this week so far has been busy again for me. No, not in getting my bags packed or making sure our plans are all set while in QC.
Here is what a mother of 4 boys does the week leading up to going away for a couple of days.
Prepare a menu for a few days (breakfast, lunch and dinner & snacks) and make sure I also include meals for Sunday and Monday morning, write a grocery list, do the boys laundry so they have clean clothes while we're away, put away their clothes, clean and vacuum the house so their babysitters (this time their grandparents) don't have a messy house to spend time with their grandchildren in. Wash the sheets and remake the Master bedroom bed for my parents to sleep in. Clean out the fridge (no Science experiments? Good!), go get groceries with my 4 boys, put the groceries away, organise the fridge and cupboards so things are easy to find, make sure there are enough diapers for J. and that we don't run out on Sunday morning.
I managed to get out my overnight bag and put it by the bed and start making a list of the things I want to bring. What am I wearing for the Friday evening...?
Time to clean up the boys bedrooms and clean up the playroom. One morning of playing sure takes a while to clean up. Sigh... What did I forget.. Oh yeah, write a list of "instructions" for J.'s bottles, making sure T. doesn't wet his pants and remembers to go...
I think I may just be ready to go away for 2 days! That is almost exactly what I did when we went away in May. When I think of travelling with the 4 boys... well... that almost seems easier!
I am so thankful... my hubby took the Thursday off so I could go get groceries and run a few errands before we go away on Friday. What a relief!
You'll have a wonderful time!!! how exciting... from the planning time to the time you come back. Enjoy!!
