Christ & Santa / Christ or Santa?
We have always told our boys that Santa doesn't really exist. That a man named Saint Nicholas most likely did and the legend comes from there. We have told them that they get their gifts from their parents and relatives. We have never told them to tell other children that Santa doesn't exist as not to upset or hurt anyone. As Christmas day approaches though we have had more and more people in stores ask my children if they cannot wait till Christmas cause Santa is coming or be good for your mom cause Santa is coming. They have been answering 'Santa doesn't bring our presents, our parents buy them!' The frowns and dropped jaws have then lead to some good conversations afterwards with our boys about the true meaning and reason for Christmas. I had an elderly gentleman say to me the other day, when I said: "Christmas is about Christ and his birth, not about Santa and what presents he brings" as the French say :' A chacun son dieu!" (To each his own god) to which I then replied: "When I get to Heaven I am hoping to see Jesus and not Santa instead." He shook his head and walked away. Christmas is a time for celebrating Christ's birth, time with family and friends, etc...If Christmas is only about the presents then it is the same as a big birthday party we all have together and everyone gets a present. Sounds like fun but it does feel sad and empty at the end of the day. Merry Christmas remembering and rejoicing in His birth and sharing the truth of Christ with grace and love!

We told our kids the same thing and I always loved seeing people's faces when my kids would respond like that too. Merry Christmas Sara! God bless!
