The Tooth fairy

We have always made it clear to our boys that at Christmas they receive their gifts from their parents and relatives and not from Santa Claus. They do get strange looks from people who ask them what they'd like from Santa this year and they answer: " My parents give me gifts, not Santa, he doesn't really exist". :-)
The Tooth fairy though is another story. My oldest has pretty much figured things out but still isn't 100% sure. I do happen to know that my second son does believe in the Tooth fairy. Tonight he lost another tooth. We helped him put it in a little bag under his pillow for the Tooth fairy to come and take and leave behind some money. The going rate for a tooth is $1. It was all settled but my son came to find me and said: " I'd like to keep my tooth this time, do you think the Tooth fairy would still bring money even if I kept the tooth?"  I told him he should write the Tooth fairy a note and ask her if that was okay.

hi Tooth Fairy,
can i keep my tooth and still get money?
Mathias

He signed his name in cursive and then turned to me and said: " I hope the Tooth fairy can read cursive!"
Well, the Tooth fairy got his letter and let him keep his tooth and left behind a $1 since she is very kind and considerate to a 7 year old who made a special request.

  1. Funny. The other day Elijah walked into the kitchen with a new tooth missing. I opened the change drawer, handed him 50 cents, he pocketed it with a "thanks, Mom." And our transaction was complete. For a lady who loves princesses and dragons, i am falling down on the job of nurturing an atmosphere of whimsy for my children.
