As I think about the things I've done and learned this past year and about this Fall and wonder about the year to come, I can't help but smile when I think about why I homeschool which helps me on the days I wondered why I started last year. This morning, my 4 boys ages 6 1/2 down to 19 months were all running around in our play room, the older three in their "birthday suits" and the youngest one in a diaper. The oldest two were supposed to be working on getting dressed. I came down and they announced, "We're playing Olympics again!". My oldest two had once stumbled upon a small painting in a History book that had the side profile of Greek Olympians in a race only wearing their birthday suits! My sons thought that would be great fun! Re-enacting some History! Can only be done at home! They were happy so they were allowed to delay getting dressed and we went on to sit in the playroom and read a whole pile of new library books. Again can only be done at home. After finally getting them all dressed they asked if we could play soccer or baseball for Phys. Ed. We looked outside and it was raining. So, we moved the furniture up against the wall (we have an open concept home with the kitchen flowing into the dining room to the living room) and played soccer for a while using chairs as the goals. We then played baseball with a foam bat and ball. My 4 year old hit 4 "home runs" and never hit anything else but the ball !
That can only be done at home as well! Most days they do get dressed before 9 a.m. and the sports are played outdoors!
None of this would have been allowed in a classroom and we had so much fun!
Now, you are a FUN mom!!. Great memories for them!. Good for you.
